Olympic Science Alliance
GLE Allignment
About this project: The Olympic Science Alliance (OSA) has been involved in an effort to align the FOSS Science modules within the K-6 grade bands to the Washington State Grade Level Expectations in Science. This work involves teacher leaders from various school districts and various grade levels within the OSA.
The alignment work has evolved into a process incorporating resources developed through the work of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Project 2061. Teacher leaders used these resources to focus on the developmental trajectory, or cohesion, of the kit topics up through the grade levels.
Teacher leaders also utilized or developed conceptual storylines to more clearly understand the interrelatedness of the components of the various modules. These pages are devoted to making those alignment documents available to help teachers quickly target the following:
º Which students understandings are addressed by each "part" of each "investigation."
º Which parts are considered "essential" or "optional."
